Why Visit Tanzania
Tanzania is home to Africa’s most iconic safari landscapes — the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Mount Kilimanjaro. The annual Great Migration, where over two million wildebeest and zebra cross the Serengeti plains and the Mara River, is one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on Earth. Tanzania also offers Indian Ocean beaches on Zanzibar, making it ideal for a safari-and-beach combination.
National Parks & Wildlife
Serengeti National Park
Africa’s most famous park. Endless plains, abundant predators (lion, leopard, cheetah), and the Great Migration from December to July. Balloon safaris offer a bird’s-eye view of the herds.
Ngorongoro Crater
A UNESCO World Heritage Site and the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera. The crater floor supports 25,000+ large animals in a 260 km² area — one of the highest wildlife densities anywhere. Big Five sightings are common on a single game drive.
Kilimanjaro National Park
Africa’s highest peak at 5,895 meters. Multiple trekking routes from 5 to 9 days. No technical climbing required — just fitness and determination. The summit offers views across the East African plateau.
Gombe Stream & Mahale Mountains
Western Tanzania’s chimpanzee sanctuaries on the shores of Lake Tanganyika. Gombe is where Jane Goodall began her research in 1960. Mahale offers a more remote, exclusive chimp trekking experience with beach relaxation on the lake.

Since January 2025, Tanzania no longer issues visas at the border or airport. All visitors must apply for an e-Visa online at visa.immigration.go.tz before travel. EAC citizens (Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan) enjoy visa-free access. US citizens must apply for a multiple-entry visa ($100) regardless of purpose.

Best Time to Visit
The dry season (June–October) is best for game viewing as animals gather around water sources. The Great Migration river crossings happen July–October. The short rains (November–December) bring green scenery and newborn animals. Kilimanjaro is climbable year-round but January–March and June–October are driest.
