Why Visit Uganda

Churchill called it “The Pearl of Africa” and the name still fits. Uganda packs more biodiversity into its borders than almost any country on Earth — mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, tree-climbing lions, the Shoebill stork, and over 1,000 bird species. Gorilla permits here cost $800 compared to $1,500 in Rwanda, making it the more affordable option.

National Parks & Wildlife

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Home to roughly half the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. 20 habituated gorilla groups spread across four sectors (Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga, and Nkuringo). The terrain is steeper than Rwanda’s Volcanoes, but the experience is equally unforgettable.

Queen Elizabeth National Park

Uganda’s most-visited park. Game drives, the famous Kazinga Channel boat safari (hippos, elephants, buffalo), and the rare tree-climbing lions of the Ishasha sector. Over 600 bird species recorded.

Murchison Falls National Park

Uganda’s largest park, where the Nile forces through a 7-meter gap creating the world’s most powerful waterfall. Game drives on the northern bank, boat cruises to the base of the falls, and chimpanzee tracking in Budongo Forest.

Kibale Forest National Park

The “primate capital of the world” with 13 species including the highest density of chimpanzees in Africa. Full-day chimpanzee habituation experiences are available alongside standard tracking.

Visa & Entry

Uganda now requires a pre-approved e-Visa for nearly all visitors — visa on arrival is no longer available. Apply online at visas.immigration.go.ug at least 2–3 weeks before travel. Processing takes 3–5 business days. EAC citizens (Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, South Sudan) are exempt.

Best Time to Visit

Dry seasons (June–September and December–February) are best for gorilla trekking and game drives. The wet seasons offer lower rates and fewer tourists. Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale is excellent year-round.
