Kibale Forest National Park — Frequently Asked Questions

How much does chimpanzee trekking in Kibale cost?
Kibale chimp trekking permits cost USD 200 per person for foreign visitors. This is cheaper than gorilla permits and gives you 1 hour with a habituated chimp community.
Is Kibale better than Nyungwe for chimpanzee trekking?
Kibale has a significantly higher chimp density and more reliable sightings, making success rates higher. Nyungwe is also excellent with cheaper permits (USD 90) and the added canopy walkway. Both are outstanding — the choice often comes down to budget and country of preference.
Can I combine Kibale with Queen Elizabeth NP?
Yes — these two parks are just 1.5 hours apart by road and East Africa Bridge Tours combines them in a classic 5-day Western Uganda circuit: Kibale (chimps) → Queen Elizabeth (game drive + Kazinga boat) → Bwindi (optional gorillas).
What is the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary?
Bigodi is a community-run wetland adjacent to Kibale with 8 primate species, 200+ birds, and excellent guides. It's less expensive than the main park and makes a excellent afternoon complement to a morning chimp trek.
What is the best trekking sector in Kibale for chimpanzees?
Kanyanchu is the main visitor centre and has the most habituated chimp community — best for first-time visitors. Kanyanthu is used for the habituation experience. East Africa Bridge Tours arranges permits for both sectors.
