Mountain Gorilla Trekking
Only about 1,000 mountain gorillas remain in the wild, split between the Virunga volcanic chain (shared by Rwanda, Uganda, and DRC) and Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. A gorilla trek is a once-in-a-lifetime encounter — you'll spend one hour just meters from a habituated family in their natural habitat.
Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park is the most accessible starting point from Kigali (2-hour drive). Uganda's Bwindi offers a more remote, rugged experience with lower permit costs. We handle permit booking, transport, and accommodation for both.
Lowland Gorilla Trekking
Eastern lowland gorillas (Grauer's gorillas) are found only in DRC's Kahuzi-Biega National Park. This is a rarer, more adventurous trek through dense tropical forest. We arrange cross-border logistics from Bukavu or Kigali.
Chimpanzee Trekking
Chimpanzee tracking is available in multiple locations across the region:
- Kibira National Park (Burundi) — the closest chimp habitat to Bujumbura
- Nyungwe Forest (Rwanda) — combined with the famous canopy walkway
- Kibale Forest (Uganda) — the highest density of primates in Africa
- Gombe Stream (Tanzania) — Jane Goodall's legendary research site, accessible by boat from Lake Tanganyika
What's Included
All our primate safari packages include transport in a 4x4 vehicle, accommodation, park entrance fees, an experienced English-speaking guide, and meals. We also assist with visa arrangements for cross-border treks.
Best Time to Go
