Travel That Gives Back
Community-based tourism connects you with the people behind the landscapes. Instead of observing from a distance, you participate — cooking together, learning traditional crafts, dancing, farming, or simply sharing stories over a cup of locally-grown coffee.
How It Works
Revenue from these visits goes directly to the host community, funding schools, health clinics, and conservation projects. We partner with established community cooperatives across Burundi, Rwanda, and Uganda who have been welcoming visitors for years.
Experiences Available
- Homestays — spend a night with a local family, share meals, and learn about daily life
- Agricultural visits — coffee and tea plantation tours, banana beer brewing, and farming workshops
- Artisan workshops — basket weaving (Agaseke in Rwanda), pottery, and woodcarving
- Village walking tours — guided walks through rural communities with a local guide
- Traditional ceremonies — including the famous Gishora Royal Drummers in Burundi
Combine with Other Experiences
Community visits pair naturally with cultural tours, nature walks, and multi-day safari packages. Most of our itineraries include at least one community stop. Contact us to design a trip centered around community experiences.
